The Zinal glacier - Switzerland
The Zinal series is our first nocturnal sub-glacial photographic series. It was carried out over three consecutive years, on around ten winter outings. We did it in pairs, carrying the lighting equipment on our backs, ski touring, and generally arriving at nightfall.
The approach is along the valley floor, over a few kilometers, to the entrance of the contact cave at the exsurgence of the Zinal glacier, dominated by the Grand Cornier and surrounded by the imperial crown of Zinal.
It's a fascinating place. At once brute force, always in motion, always different, often noisy, it is also delicate, with its silky texture sculpted by the subglacial river.
Photographic work: superimposition of shots taken on tripods, artificial light source.
